What’s New in Store

-Book earrings restock! The book earrings by lovegrows clay co. that we introduced last month were a huge hit, and now they’re back in stock here at the store. Come grab a pair before they sell out again!

–Gaming events with Not Too Board LLC. We are so excited to introduce a series of gaming events in partnership with Not Too Board LLC. We will be hosting euchre tournaments, bingo, and Dungeons & Dragons sessions right here inside Griffeys’ Book Emporium! Check out the events schedule below for timing and pricing information.

Upcoming Events

–Book Signing w/ Michael Moore. August 5th, 5pm. Local author and artist Michael Moore will be reading from and signing copies of his novel Crumpled Paper: A Novel about Art and Tea. Copies are available to purchase here in store.

-Euchre Tournaments w/ Not Too Board LLC. August 8th, 15th, and 22nd, 12pm-3pm and 6pm-9pm. We’ve heard the euchre scene in Delaware is looking for somewhere to play… why not join us for tournaments on Tuesdays here at the bookstore? Buy in: $5

-Bingo w/ Not Too Board LLC. August 9th, 16th, and 23rd, 12pm-3pm. Join us for a round of the ever-popular Bingo! Cost per card/per game: $2

-Dungeons and Dragons w/ Not Too Board LLC. August 9th, 16th, and 23rd, 6pm-10pm. Handbooks and character sheets will be available (though you are welcome to bring your own) and we will have Beginner, Intermediate, and Expert campaigns; no experience required for Beginner games! Cost per person: $8

–Homeschool Info Night. August 10th, 5:30-7pm. Curious about homeschooling? Confused by the new laws and school notifications? Just looking for a supportive group where you can get your questions answered? Accomplished homeschooler Dawn Garrett is coordinating this special info night to help answer your questions and assure you that you (yes you!) can homeschool!

–Book Signing w/ Benjamin Ditmars. August 11th, 5pm. Local poet Benjamin Ditmars will be reading from and signing copies of his poetry collection Conversations. Copies will be available to purchase here in the store.

–August Gathering Market. August 12th, 11am-5pm. Join us in shopping from a variety of local artists, makers, and vendors, here inside the store!

–Distraction Free Writer’s Retreat. August 14th, 9am-5pm. In case you missed it, we are hosting a very special distraction-free writer’s retreat here at the bookstore on August 14th! The retreat is intended for writers of all sorts, not just novelists, but bloggers, students, journalers, etc. We’re super excited about this retreat, and we hope that you’ll join us in cultivating an intentional writing practice away from the distraction of your smartphone and surrounded by books. You can learn more about it and get tickets here. Tickets: $42 (includes a light lunch)

–Open Mic Night. August 18th, 6:30pm. Open Mic Night is back for a third round! Please sign up for a slot here beforehand if possible! As last time, there is no set end time for the event; we will start at 6:30 and go for as long as folks still have things to share.

–Game Night. August 25th, 6pm-10pm. You know the drill! Join us for an evening of board gaming fun, bring a friend, and bring your favorite game or borrow one of ours. Please note have updated the event time to better reflect the needs of our community.

Other Announcements

-Beverage lovers! Grab bubble tea and head to the bookstore. Bubble Bee is an awesome new food truck here in Delaware, and they’re often set up just a block or so down the road from us at 650 West Central Ave. from 3:30-7pm. They offer a wide variety of delicious bubble teas and lemonades, perfect for sipping while you browse the stacks here at Griffeys’. As we do not yet have a coffee bar, we would commend you to grab a drink from Bubble Bee and pop down the street to our shop for the full beverage-and-bookstore experience 🤗
