Hello everyone! It’s hard to believe that we’re already in the final month of the year… I want to just take a moment and say thank you to everyone who has supported the store over the past twelve months. You are amazing and we appreciate you more than you know! Here’s what’s coming up at Griffeys’ in December (and beyond!):
What’s New In Store
-Bookish earrings are in stock! Our ever popular book earrings, made by local designer Lovegrows Handmade, are back in stock for the holidays! Make sure you come pick up a pair for all your literary friends. These would make such great stocking stuffers!

-Christmas cards (and stickers) are back for the holidays! We have Christmas cards by local designer Gem Garden Arts back on the card rack once more! Cards are $4.50 each (less expensive than many you can find at the grocery store) and support not one but TWO Delaware-based businesses. We also have some adorable Christmas stickers in the sticker display at the front desk. 🎄

-We can special order many new, in print books for direct-to home delivery! This is a service we have been quietly testing for a little while, but we thought it would be good to share about it publicly with the holidays coming up. If you’re looking to gift a specific title or newer bestseller this holiday season, this service might be right for you! Check out the FAQs below, and email, direct message, or visit us in store to get started.

Upcoming Events:
–Book Launch with Emily Patterson. December 8th, 6pm-7pm. Join local poet and Ohio Wesleyan graduate Emily Patterson in celebrating the launch of her latest chapbook To Bend and Braid. Emily will be doing a reading, answering questions, and signing copies of her book here at Griffeys’!
–The Christmas Gathering Market. December 9th, 11am-3pm. Join us for our final market of the year with a selection of local vendors, makers, and artisans, right here inside Griffeys’ Book Emporium. This is a great time to shop for locally-made gifts and goodies for everyone on your list. Please note that this market will only run until 3pm, not 5pm as in previous months!
–Board Game Night. December 29th, 6pm-10pm. Join us for an evening of fun and friendly competition! Bring your favorite game, or borrow one of ours.
-Intermediate D&D Group. Every Wednesday, 7pm-10pm. Join us on Wednesday nights after hours for our Intermediate D&D 5e group! The group operates on a drop in/drop out basis, and we always post recaps of the sessions in our D&D Facebook group.
Please note that there will be NO Open Mic Night this month! We will resume with our regular Open Mic Night schedule in January 2024.
Other Announcements
-Vendor markets will be changing in 2024. Our market contract with Maggie of Hey August Co. is coming to an end after the Christmas Gathering Market. Maggie ended up moving down to Cincinnati, and has found it difficult to facilitate a market in Delaware from over 2 hours away! So next year we will be taking the month of January to bring the market process fully in-house and organize everything for the year ahead. It is also likely that we will be moving away from monthly markets to something more like quarterly markets, though we have not made any concrete decisions on that yet. Please stay tuned for updates! We love our vendor markets and are hoping to make them even better in 2024.
-Bookbinding services are coming in 2024. We have been getting requests to rebind books almost since we opened, and I am excited to say that bookbinding services are finally on their way for Griffeys’! I don’t have an exact timeline yet, but keep your eyes peeled early next year. In the meantime, if you have any beloved books that need a little TLC, see if our book repair services are right for you!
-Shop local this holiday season. We want to encourage you to support small and local businesses as you’re shopping for gifts this year! There are so many awesome businesses with all kinds of amazing products here in Delaware and the broader Central Ohio area, and you’re sure to find something for everyone on your list. Plus, when you give a gift from a local business, you’re really giving two gifts: one to your recipient, and one to the business you shop at! We wouldn’t be here without you 🙂
